77 | Engaging the Canadian Culture as an Immigrant

As new immigrants continue to form part of the Canadian multicultural fabric they must fully understand their obligations as a Canadian resident/citizen. They must understand and accept that they are expected to contribute to national safety, stability, and social harmony.

This week’s episode is all about how immigrants can engage the Canadian culture. I discussed extensively with Charles the importance of role models, how to engage the Candian culture, Charles’ advice as a Human Resources executive, and much more.

Charles is EY Canada’s Talent Team Director for the Assurance practice. Prior to joining EY, he served as the Director of Human Resources for PwC Consulting in Canada (later IBM BCS) for several years.

Charles’ experience has covered many talent management areas including aligning HR and business strategies, HR aspects of Mergers and Acquisitions, Leadership Development, Inclusiveness, Total Rewards strategy, Employee Relations, Career Development and Change Management. He has worked with leadership teams on innovative HR initiatives in a number of countries and was part of a judging panel for Corporate University Exchange’s 13th Global Conference on Leadership Innovation in the US where he helped to select organizations with innovative leadership development programs. He is also a frequent speaker on HR Strategy, Leadership & Succession Management, Employee Engagement and Mergers & Acquisitions.

Charles is on the board of Farm Radio International (FRI) and also serves on the editorial board of Human Resources Professional Association’s (HRPA) HR Professional magazine.

He holds an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Ghana Business School and a Master of Industrial Relations degree from Queen’s University at Kingston. He is a Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) and a Certified Humana Resources Executive (CHRE).
