This is Part 2 of “Risking it all with Dr. Chika Onwuekwe, Q.C.” If you haven’t heard Part 1 yet, go back and listen to it. That is the episode right before this because you’d need that for context.
It takes advice and support to be a successful immigrant. But it’s one thing to have the resources and another thing to use them – to listen to the advice and take action.
This week’s episode is all about how Dr. Chika risked it all to pursue his dreams in Canada. I discussed extensively with Dr. Chika the practical strategies that have helped him navigate his career journey to a senior leadership level.
Dr. Chika B. Onwuekwe is the Vice President, Legal, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary at Trican Well Service Ltd., and a member of the senior executive team at Trican. He was previously the first General Counsel at PTW Energy Services Ltd. Prior to joining Trican, Dr. Onwuekwe articled and subsequently practiced at Norton Rose Fulbright Canada (formerly Macleod Dixon LLP) and MLT Aikins LLP (formerly MacPherson Leslie Tyerman LLP) in Calgary.
He was formerly an Assistant Professor of Law and Society at the University of Calgary, an Adjunct Professor of Business Law at LBS Pan African University, Lagos, Nigeria, Experienced Senior at KPMG International (Tax, Legal & Business Regulatory Division) Lagos office, and a Consultant to both Justice Canada and Health Canada.
He is a registered Canadian Trademark Agent, a director, and treasurer of the Association of Corporate Council (ACC), Alberta Chapter, a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC), the Canadian Bar Association, and the Law Society of Alberta.
He volunteers with the Law Society of Alberta, the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association (CCCA), and African communities in Alberta. He is a founding member and the first President of African Coalition Club. Dr. Onwuekwe is also the Co-chair of BlackNorth Initiative (BNI) Mentorship and Sponsorship Committee, and the Chair of BNI Alberta Chapter.
This is one episode you should not miss and share with everyone you love.
